When you hugged your little one this morning, did you realize this was a moment you would never get back again?
Thank God for that thought because it made me soak it in deeper, and longer…
But what moved me to write today is not my baby, it’s the cross.
This weekend, like many weekends before it, we reflect on and commemorate a hefty price that was paid on our behalf. Like, dying is hard enough but when you think of Christ on the Cross saying, “it is finished”, you realize that the death might have been the easiest part. The culmination of hatred, accusation, betrayal, mockery, beating, piercing, crushing, bleeding, and INNOCENCE. An innocent lamb was slain on calvary and the crowd chanted in agreement.
If it be your will Father, let this cup pass… A window into Jesus’ humanity, and humility. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his privileges, took the humble position of a slave and was born a human being. He humbled himself and became obedient unto death, EVEN death on the cross (Phil 2:6)
When he died, the veil in the temple, that used to separate us from God was torn, literally. The separation was gone, and access was granted! Because of Him, we now have access!
HIS wounds were for OUR transgressions, HIS bruises for OUR iniquities, the punishment that brought US peace was on HIM. By HIS wounds, WE were healed. (Is 53:5)
Does it really occur to us, how much we did not, could not have deserved this. We literally chanted him to the cross. Many of us are benefitting from access granted by one we never met (physically). Access granted in prelude to our sins. Like even before you sinned, the Son said this sacrifice is for you and the Father said, I have already forgiven you.
